• I enjoy bio or autobiographical books, mostly mathematicains(Gauss,Galois), engineers(Von Karman), composers(Mozart), I havent read a good one in a while though.
• I discovered Stephen Crane in our English class, I especially liked The Open Boat and subsequently read the The Red Badge Of Courage ... it was okay.
• Stephen Hawking(Different Seasons, The Green Mile), of course all Stephen Hawking novels have an element of horror in them. But if you really want horror read Franz Kafka's The Trial or The Castle.
• If you are interested in mathematics and its applications to science I would recommend reading Steve J. Heims's "John Von Neumann and Norbert Wiener: From Mathematics to the Technologies of Life and Death", it is a bit biased against Von Neumann but is still a fascinating book about the lives of the 2 mathematicians.
• The Elegant Universe (Brian Greene) and A Brief History Of Time (Hawking) are 2 of my favorite science for laymen type of books, The Elegant Universe is just an excellent book in every sense, its broad in a sense but still coveys a good depth of information on string theory and its various sub-divsions. Even if one has no interest in string theory it is still a great illustration of the direction physics has taken since the 1900's.
• The Bhagavad Gita was interesting, my father quote's from it all the time and I can see why, it has some great verses in it.
• The classic 1984 by George Orwell. It was scary ... if you've never experienced peace and freedom then indeed 'War Is Peace' and 'Freedom Is Slavery', question is, have we??
• Read For whom the bell tolls by Hemingway, pretty good, a bit long though. Also read Stranger In A Strange Land, the first half of this book was really thought provoking and entertaining. Unfortunately, the second half was pretty bad, the story descends from fantasy and mind tickling speculation to downright absurdity and propoganda.
• Finally got my hands on a good physics book, The Theory of Almost Everything: The Standard Model, the Unsung Triumph of Modern Physics. Very well written, I learnt a lot of new things about particle physics, and how the quest for a 'periodic table' of subatomic particles together with mathematical concepts like symmetry led to perhaps the greatest achievement of science.
• I read the Panchtantra (collection of ancient Indian folk tales) and Siddartha by Herman Hesse over the inter-session break. The Panchtantra was fun to read .. its really meant for younger people but Siddartha was a bit harder especially since I dont know a whole lot about Buddhism ... its too much about just the self ...

Hmmmm....mostly my family,consisting of my really hardworking and really loving mother, really hardworking and inspirational father and really smart and inspirational sister. They are all very real and without them I wouldn't be.
