Spring 2004 Finite Element Rodeo
We look forward to having you at the upcoming Rodeo this Friday. We
have had an unusually strong response and there will be a larger
number of attendees than usual. There will be a limited number of
talks possible in the time available. If the number of talks are
over subscribed then we can accommodate some talks through a luncheon
poster session on Saturday. We hope to have a balance of talks among
faculty, post docs and students. If the talks are over subscribed we
plan to ask those students who are not in their final PhD year to
take advantage of the poster opportunity.

Time and PlaceThe Rodeo will begin at 10:30AM on Friday, March 5, and will be held on the University of Texas Campus in the Avaya Auditorium of the Applied Computational Engineering & Sciences (ACES) Building.Friday EveningDinner on Friday evening will be in the ACES building at 6:30pm. Dinner for participants is included in their registration fee. Dinner tickets for spouses/guests are $25 each and should be paid at the registration desk Friday morning.ParkingThe ACES building is located at the corner of 24th and Speedway. Parking on Friday for the Rodeo is available in the covered parking facility located on San Jacinto - approximately 30 meters north of the intersection of 24th and San Jacinto (see 'SJG' on map below). Bring your parking stub to the registration desk and we will provide a sticker for free parking.Meeting FormatTime will permit approximately 20 talks (each of approximately 20 minutes duration). The order of the talks will be determined at the beginning of the meeting.Because of the large number of participants this year we are recommending that student presentations be limited to only those students in the final year of their PhD.The audio visual capability of the Avaya Auditorium is provided at the ACES building website. Please note the auditorium is equipped with a document projector so if you have printed hard copy of your slides that is actually preferable to transparencies. However, both can be accommodated as can laptops. AccommodationsA block of rooms has been reserved at the Omni Hotel. Guests may make their own reservation by calling 1-800-843-6664 and mention "UT ICES" to get the discounted rate of $80 for single and $110 for double. Even though the cut off date for making a hotel reservation at the Omni has passed, if they have rooms available they may still honor the conference rate.Note: Please make your reservation early because there is a UIL tournament in Austin the same weekend as our meeting and accommodations will be much more difficult to obtain for individuals who delay to the last minute. RegistrationThe registration for the meeting will be $35 with a reduced registration of $15 for students. Two lunches, a dinner on Friday evening and refreshments during the meeting are included in the registration. Prepayment and advanced notice is preferred so we can make appropriate arrangements for refreshments and meals.
