Visualization Project and Global Distributed Design System
Key Opportunities
- Resource Allocation. The ability to exploit under used cycles at
remote facilities for analysis computations and view results locally can
significantly impact cycle time in design.
- Visualizer can help link remote sites of some industrial/government
organizations e.g. different Boeing installations or institutions working
on interrelated projects. Different branches of Armed Services interacting
on some objective.
- Retrieval of distributed HPC results and selective interactive
intelligent screening of results. e.g. User views flow field at coarse
hierarchic level, gets direction to regions that were adaptively refined,
comments on local error indicator levels, etc., selectively views
subregions and extracts high resolution data hierarchically, etc.
- Technical aspects of hierarchic data structures, compression,
visualizer, parallel partitioning, etc.
Issues
- Internet traffic Blockage and Bandwidth Limitations... This is a
problem that will (hopefully) improve as system hardware or interest policies
evolve. However, even with this difficulty, our approach will permit exploitation at each stage of
development.
- Software protocols and transferability (especially
for parallel systems). Propose to use GUI in phase I of research but
this is a long-term issue. Some tools along the lines of VRML could
be used to allow users to "walk through solutions". Our broker could
be used to improve or simplify the "walk through" or act as a "tour
guide".
- Unstructured grid partitioning is a topic of
ongoing research. The be reconfigured in a hierarchical manner.
- Security: Users need to shield proprietary and
secret information.
